What are you defined as? Is it the life of the party title? Or the one who is always late? Maybe it’s the one anyone can always call. Whatever the title may be, isn’t it funny how when you’re asked this you automatically think of what other people would say?
That’s what I’ve been working on. What am I defined as within myself, not so much of what others define me as. This can be difficult of course. It’s extremely hard for me to not have others opinions of me at the forefront of my mind. You may relate to that, you may not. If you don’t- send some pointers pls.
What I’ve been learning lately: we are not in control of how others view us, but what we are in control of how we present ourselves around others to help shape their view. The best part of this thought process is it’s never too late to change how you present yourself. How cool is that?!
If you were to ask me 6 months ago what I would be defined as I have a feeling it would have been along the lines of liar, selfish, so very lost, and manipulative. Today, if I was asked that question, I would be able to proudly say loved, valued, chosen, and forgiven.
What’s the coolest part of all of those words is those have been what has defined me from the start. I was just so lost that I refused to realize that. But that goes back to sentence I wrote about it never being too late. Praise God for His grace.
We are defined in scripture many times. Followers of Christ literally have an entire outline on what they are defined as. How cool is it that in moments where maybe you don’t know the answer to the infamous “who am I?” question, you have the answer within scripture?!
When we present ourselves in such a way that represents Christ, as we are called to live, we quickly start to shift those opinions from negative to positive just by doing so. Defining yourself as a chosen loved one of Christ is the best title one can hold. Who wouldn’t want to be that?! Once you realize that, I promise you, the insecurities that you feel will start to shed one by one until you are walking in such confidence that all of those around you are going to notice the change and cheer you on. I’m proof of just that. And it is a wonderful feeling.
Some verses to help remember what defines us (:
“There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death.”
Romans 8:1-2 ESV (forgiven)
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ in every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, even as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, and that we should be holy and blameless before Him.”
Ephesians 1:3-4 ESV (chosen)
“For God so loved the world that He gave his only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.”
John 3:16 ESV (loved)
